PLEASE NOTE : commemoration & participants
The commemorations which take place between the 15th and 20th of June 2010 have a European character since associations of neighboring countries associated with the Moselle River 1944 committee are taking part in this ultimate act of homage .
All persons arriving at Thionville, 15 June, must first go by their own means, to the Hotel Horizon, 50 Route du Creve Coeur 57100 Thionville, to register and receive their information packet and hotel voucher.
The voucher is needed to get access to their assigned hotel. Shuttles, if needed, will bring the guests to their hotels and bring them back to the Hotel Horizon between 6:30-7:00pm in the early evening. The definitive hotel room assignments will not be known until 14 June, Monday. We will not know in advance of that date. The hotel is easily accessed by following the arrows toward the hospital BEL AIR or towards CREVE COEUR:
Take Exit 40 on the autoroute A31, then follow the arrows marked RED CROSS to BEL-AIR HOSPITAL.
MOSELLE RIVER PROGRAM :
To celebrate the 65th anniversary of the end of the war, the Moselle River 1944 Association, France and the US Veterans Friends, Luxembourg have decided to organise together this international Friendship Week with activities in Luxembourg, France, Belgium and Germany.
Tuesday, June 15th 2010 :
• Arrival at the airport in Luxembourg, the train station in Thionville or others.
• Transfer with busses to the different hotels in and around Thionville.
• Reception and Welcome Drink at 7.00 p.m.at the hotel Horizon in Thionville.
Wednesday, June 16th 2010 :
Visit to Luxembourg.
• Visit of the old City of Luxemburg.
• Commemoration Ceremony with wreath laying at the American Military Cemetery in Hamm.
• Reception by the US Veterans Friends, Luxembourg at the Cultural Center in Moutfort.
• Presentation of the Legion of Honor "The Chapel of Four Chaplains" to veterans.
• Dinner in Moutfort, offered by the US Veterans Friends, Luxembourg.
Thursday, June 17th 2010:
• Departure for Sinz in Germany for a ceremony at the peace monument.
• Cruise on the Moselle river from Remich in Luxembourg to Thionville in France with lunch on board.
• After docking in Thionville, transportation with the bus to the castle in Volkrange.
• Inauguration of the new monument, dedicated to the aviators flying back from a bombing mission over Germany and who crashed in the area around.
• Reception at the domain of Volkrange.
• Dedication of the reconstructed historical camp "Colonel Albert Cardamon".
• Reception by the town of Yutz.
• Dinner at the camp.
Friday, June 18th 2010 :
• Departure of the historical convoy starting in different towns of the commune of Thionville. The veterans are invited to have a seat in the historical vehicles driving through the towns of Terville, Thionville and Yutz to drive to the historical. camp "Colonel Albert Cardamon" which will be reconstructed at the space of the aeroclub.
• Lunch
• International Europeen Event in presence of international high authorities.
• Inauguration of the memorial in Basse-Ham / Koenigsmacher.
• After the ceremony, official ceremony.
• In the evening, concert in Terville, given by the philharmonic orchestra of Thionville.
Saturday, June 19th 2010 :
• Presentation of the "Medal Commemorative WWII" to veterans.
• Texan barbecue at the reconstructed military camp, with historical equipment, vehicles and musicale entertainment. The camp is open for the public.
• Historical convoy to Terville.
• Ceremony in Terville.
• Dinner and dance with musical entertainment.
• Fireworks.
• Public dance party.
Sunday, June 20th 2010 :
• Presentation of the "Medal Commemorative WWII" to veterans.
• Splitting of the group and transportation to different communes.
• Lunch in the respective townships.
• Inauguration of the "Place Martin Lifschultz", veteran of the 90th Infantry Division who liberated this village(Martin passed away in November 2005).
• Closing ceremony in Yutz with wreath laying at the grave of Colonel Albert Cardamon and ceremony at the memorial of Yutz.
• Historical convoy in Yutz.
• Reception at the historical camp.
• Farewell dinner.
• Fireworks.
Monday June 21st 2010 :
End of the Moselle River commemorative events.
CONTINUATION OF THE PROGRAM IN LUXEMBOURG UPON INVITATION OF THE US VETERANS FRIENDS (USVF)
Monday June 21st 2010. Luxembourg City, Schuttrange, Grevenmacher
• Transfer to the hotels Ibis in Luxembourg and Euro Hotel in Gonderange.
• Inauguration of the restored monument at Findel next to the airport.
• Ceremony at the memorial in Schuttrange followed by a meal offered by the commune.
• Ceremony in Grevenmacher at the monument for the 80th Infantry Division, who liberated this town.
• Friendship dinner.

• Ceremony at the town monument in Niederfeulen
• Lunch offered by the commune.

Wednesday, June 23th 2010. National Holiday–Grand Duke's Birthday
• Te Deum at the cathedral of Luxembourg in the presence of the grand-ducal family. Formal dress required. Ladies may wear hat.
• Commemoration ceremony at the 90th Infantry Memorial in Wincrange
• Farewell dinner at the Hotel in Gonderange, offered by the US Veterans Friends,Luxembourg.
